Is this orange-headed firefly looking bug a problem?

So I saw an abundance of these bugs today. Very fireflyish in shape and size, except that the wings were a solid dull grayish-black and the head was totally orange- underside (abdomen?) was waspish in color, mostly yellow with black stripes. They flew like fireflies. I never saw any eat anything, but they were very active, flying from leaf to leaf on my nasturtiums and mating like crazy.

My internet research leans toward some kind of soldier beetle, but the online photos I've seen don't totally convince me. Maybe a blister beetle? My camera prevented me from getting a good picture of one, I'm afraid.

So, (1) does my description ring a bell with anyone? Does it describe soldier beetles? and (2) what are the relative risks/benefits of soldier beetles?

Thanks in advance.

no macro option on the ol' camera? soldier beetles are predators, but they're not terribly particular about who they eat - some of their diet will be beneficials, some real pests...if that's truly what you've got. pic would help.
