I apologize if any of you actually see this post. I am just testing to see if this image works. When I hit "Preview" it only shows the code. I'm not sure if that means there is a problem, or if it just doesn't show pictures in the Preview mode.
Here is my drip line. Yay! No more hand watering.

picture test: how embarrassing!

I can't see the photo in your post, but when I select the url for it and paste it into my browser, I get perhaps three rows of tomato plants with a soccer kicking goal in the background sitting on a green lawn, all of which is in front of the side of a house?
Plants look sturdy. Is there a question about their health? or were you just practicing photo stuff?
(I'm probably the last person in the US who doesn't have a digital camera and can't post immediate on-line stuff, so I'm not criticizing at all. Just wanted to let you know what I was and was not able to see.)

Please feel free to laugh. I laugh at myself all the time. And the sad thing about this is that I am usually pretty literate in this kind of stuff. How embarrassing!
Cynthia, I am actually not concerned with this photo, I am just trying to practice inserting photos.
Blakeeboo, that's what I would assume "Preview" mode would do. It just didn't make sense why my photos weren't showing up when I did exactly what made sense to do.
If you know exactly what I am doing wrong, I apparently need to be walked through this process.
And the reason you guys are seeing this is because I can't figure out how to delete my post. I guess I am having a pregnant moment! (You guys will let me claim that, right?)
So if you could also tell me how to delete my post you won't have to see this in the future; I will just delete it immediately if it doesn't work. I am so sorry to take up a post for my stupidity!

I belong (or have belonged) to several phpbb fora (pl. of forum, Latin) and in none of them can I delete my own posts.
In one forum, the owner/moderator has even removed the Edit capability.
In Helpful Gardener, the moderators have the power to delete threads (and maybe individual posts; I'm not sure).
So I don't think you're having a "moment"; I just don't think you can delete your own posts here at HG.
Willing to find out that I'm wrong!

The
that signals where the image url ends. Between the two IMG tags is where you place the URL for the images you want displayed.
You opened the second one thusly:
[/img]https://... [/img]
It should be like this
https://..[/img]
However, I suspect that URL is not the correct one to use for posting to forums. I'll explain why:
Photobucket makes it very easy for you to copy and paste the exact code you'll need. They list four different codes to use:
1. Share URL - Email & I'm
2. Direct Link - Layout Pages
3. HTML Code - Websites & Blogs
4. IMG Code - Forums & Bulletin Boards
It's # 4 that you should use. Just click inside the space next to #4 at this URL
https://s295.photobucket.com/albums/mm152/agwalt/?action=view¤t=IMG_2597.jpg
and it's automatically copied (you should see a brief yellow pop-up/tool tip indicating it's copied.
Then come back here and paste it. That's it. No formatting, it's already done for you.

edit: darnit, got beat to the punch ^^.
The second one needed the following part taken out: "/?action=view¤t=". Also, what should be a "begin (img) tag" at the front was mistakenly a "end (/img) tag". Fix those two things and you get this:
[img]https://s295.photobucket.com/albums/mm152/agwalt/IMG_2597.jpg[/img]
You can quote this post and see the actual code used if you need. Hope this helps.

Your first one doesn't seem to be viewable online (it's trying to make me download the file when I paste it in the browser). You can't embed a picture unless it is viewable without a download.agwalt wrote:I apologize if any of you actually see this post. I am just testing to see if this image works. I am SO embarrassed that so many of you saw this post!
While the last few of you were giving me details of how to do it, I was having my husband help me. Here is the post I worked up. I'm just going to include it to verify everything you've told me.
Thanks for all your help! I promise not to take up posting space for experimenting on my part.
Just in case there is anyone else who may have also had this problem I will tell you what was wrong.
Apparently in Picasa and Photobucket there is a query string at the end of the image location (if you right click the image and select "copy image location"). That would be the question mark and everything after that. Once we got rid of that, the images worked. In Photobucket there are different links and codes underneath the picture. The one without the query string is the bottom one which is the "IMG" code. Interesting huh? IMG for image?
Well, I'm a dork, but we figured it out. I am leaving an example of the code that has the query string so you can see what I was talking about. This is the code that 505zoom just showed us. Talk about being beaten to the punch!!

How come html tags can't be used correctly here? I've tried and given up posting photos here. I frequently post to other forums without problem.
I have a photobucket account. I don't use it because it downgrades my images. I upload my photos to a ritzpix.com account that offers html code to share small, medium, or large photos. (Size changes available after upload.) I also order my prints through ritz so it's important to be able to have the full size and resolution at the time of upload. Ritz doesn't limit the size or quality of my images. If I were to use photobucket, just to post to this one forum, I would have to upload my photos twice to two different services. That would be time-consuming and cumbersome.
Edited to add: Forgot to mention that I've tried editing the html with the [IMG] code tags by putting the actual URL in the img tags without success. And I'm not new to posting to forums or posting photos to forums.
I don't work for ritz, so I'm not trying to get in advertising for them. They have just been the most convenient upload service for me as I can pick up my prints an hour after upload, or on a break from work as the pickup location is only four blocks from where I work. If I could find another service that allowed me to upload prints I can pick up locally at reasonable prices and at full resolution, I'd switch. (I'm not married to them so I have been looking - but because of print options.) The one other place I found that had pickup was five miles away. I commute by bus and it wasn't even close to where I travel regularly.

I don't know if they lack the .jpg extension. I can look later or when I get home. I don't recall seeing that when I was trying to figure out a way to manipulate the URL to work correctly here and that would be an obvious one to miss.
I think one of the reasons it may not be a direct link to the photo is to prevent people from downloading other people's images, as they are coprighted. The code should allow the clicker different options, but not allow downloading or copying through some kind of server-side programming based on the account. But I am not a programmer and the details escape me, and I haven't had a chance to verify this because each time I think about it, a click on one of my posted images from home gets me into my ritz account. And that is actually one of the reasons I was looking for a different service, with tighter security integrated with flexibility for printing since I do print quite a few of my photos. Photobucket has far too many restrictions and very loose security that provide little benefit for my needs.
If that's the case, I can contact ritz about it and ask for an IMG option or change in the posting options. I just had nothing to say to them before because their code works everywhere I've posted - until I came here. And since I've been looking for a different service to meet my needs, I didn't want to rock the boat too much just before switching. With the code functional for other forums, it was easier to just opt to not post here. I have a web page if the need was great to provide an image.

Ritz only licenses the technology from another company, so contacting them may have little effect. It may be that you're trying to make their service do what it's not intended to do.
I use flickr to manage my photos and control the privacy of them. Some I designate as available to family or friends, two groups for different levels. I can then have high quality prints ordered via a professional printer in San Francisco. They have some kind of software that can interface with flickr and pull the data for prints. Not sure what's available in your area though, but I do know they have like a same day printing service available via Target.
But I can right click a public photo in flickr and choosing properties from the drop down menu, I can select and copy the URL and use it within img tags, as in the following example:

I looked into flickr and didn't like that service either. Target is the location I mentioned earlier that is several miles in a direction I don't go to. I think their service also only had glossy options for pickup.
Eventually I'll find something that meets my needs for printing. But for forum posting it's easier just to go back to putting photos on my web page. I will probably have to pay a subscription for the services I need based on all the free ones I signed up to try. Ritz isn't really free either but the pickup location sold me until I find something else.
