Does someone know what plant this is?

I started this plant from seed in school and the seed package said that it is a chili variety called aji fantasy. However, I googled it and those aji fantasies looked very different from my plant.

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry I don't know what your plant is. Are you going to plant it out in a garden plot or grow it in the pot?
I suggest full sunshine and keep it watered well.

You may find this of interest?

When you see what the roots of plants do when out in the ground we have to say they are seriously restricted when grown in a pot.

Thanks for the advice!
I don't have a garden so I have to keep it in a pot. Also I don't think it's a good idea to transplant it into a bigger pot because then it becomes difficult to take it inside at nights that are still quite cold (coldest temperature around 50F).

Plants do fine with cool night time temperatures. As long as it doesn't freeze, which happens at 32 degs F.

It looks like a variety of sunflower. Can you get a close-up pic of the stalk and a close-up of where the leaf stem comes out of the stalk.

Definitely not any kind of pepper. Possibly sunflower or you may just be carefully tending some weed that popped up.

I also thought it looked like a sunflower except that the leaves grow in a different pattern, so that's why I wasn't sure. Here are the pictures:

I'm almost sure that it's not a weed because I started the seed indoors.

I thought velvet leaf when I first looked but the leaves on those have smooth and even edges. Definitely not a pepper. If you have the room let it grow and see what the flowers look like.

I have seen a plant like that before but at the moment I can not remember what it is. This reminds me of a time about 45 yrs ago when I first started gardening a plant came up that I did not recognize so I watered it and fertilized it and took good care of it and it turned out to be an 8 foot tall weed called, Lambs Quarters. It never did make any fruit. LOL.

That is not a pepper or a sunflower. And just because you started it from seed indoors doesn't mean the seed was what it was supposed to be or the soil didn't have weed seeds in it. You are tending a "weed" in the sense that if it's not what you planted, it's a weed.

I didn't think about that it could have been in the soil. That is definitely a possibility. I don't think the chance of getting the wrong seed from seed packets are very high. The fact that I started growing it at school makes it possible that the seeds or even the plant was mixed with someone elses.

That stalk and how the leaf stem comes out of it does look sunflower-like; it will be very interesting to see when the first flower bud starts to come out.

It's also entirely possibly that the seeds were never your aji fantasy pepper. Pepper seeds will usually be flat beige to brown disks about as big around as the pointy end of a chopstick, and they are ivory when very fresh and new. Do you recall what they looked like? Especially with small companies, the seeds will be filled by hand. And if a bunch of orders came in, they just might get their kids or their dog to help. I do not mean to disrespect these cottage garden type seed sellers, but just point out the possibility for error when they don't have 3000 packets to fill with a machine doing the work.
