I stumbled across a game app called The Room. It's free now that The Room2 ($) was released earlier this month. Absolutely great! I can also recommend Cubic Room 1, 2, and 3 if you can find them -- for some reason I couldn't find them this morning in the App Store, although I still have them on my iDevices.
My memory is failing enough that I can enjoy these puzzle games at least twice before I can remember most of the steps. My DD somehow remembers all the steps in sequence, so the enjoyment is not as lasting for her.

It was a little puzzle of its own.
They don't show up if search is set for "iPad only" even though I'm playing them on iPad Air.
Here's the first one: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cubic-r ... 67639?mt=8

That's a weird hint. I can't think of a dagger in RmTwo at the mo.... (I finished it -- wah
>> happy but sad)
A dagger went in the stone table in the star room previously... But you had to do that to move ahead.
-- what objects do you have right now? ...Make sure to back up completely if you can't seem to move around, zoom/shift to a likely different object/section, or get to a different location.
For the first box in RmTwo -- there are things you do to the table it's on and you need to find the key for the beetle case. It sounds like you know what to do with the mirrors? All the electrical gizmos should be right up your ally

I can't wait to hear that you've played Cubic Room 3
(...but play CR1 and CR2 first
)
FYI -- Kalaquli, White Room, Garou, and Sunken Room are pretty good, too.

Ah -- see I need to keep my mouth shut!
I was trying to figure out the next chapter for so so long I totally forgot the details of the first chapter. I asked DD and she said there WAS a dagger in that "temple" chapter that you were probably talking about. I hope I didn't give away too much with my comments above.
I'm going to wait a couple of weeks to a month and then try playing again. hopefully details will have faded even more by then.

In Cubic Rms the little playing card supplies good hints that won't give the whole thing away.
Remember that the objects you have can be examined more closely and sometimes interact with each other like in Room and Room2.
(I hope that was vague enough)
Eric, I understand where you are coming from -- I think my comments are a way of trying to deal by making light of it after seeing how my father is deteriorating during our visit.

I may come across as a troll, a jerk and make light of many a topic, but Alzheimer's is not one of them. I lost my oldest brother to this horrible disease earl June this year. It's not just a elderly disease.Eric, I understand where you are coming from -- I think my comments are a way of trying to deal by making light of it after seeing how my father is deteriorating during our visit.

So sorry for your loss and I apologize if I thoughtlessly caused distress.
We gave my parents an iPad Air. They will most likely use it primarily to FaceTime with us and their grandkids.
But I loaded it with apps, games, and subscribed to iPod podcasts I hoped they would enjoy. I set them up with YouTube account and set them up with some favorites and a playlist.
The map games are example of games I got for them. I helped my dad play one during our visit. I don't think they would be able to manage the complicated room escape puzzles, but I'm going to look for other mentally stimulating games that they can enjoy.

...finally found another game app worthy of recommending
So to sum up, I think The Room, The Room 2, Cubic Room, Cubic Room 2, and Cubic Room 3 are particularly good. (Cubic Room apps appear under "iPhone only" but is compatible with iPad)
...and now Tiny Bang
Car Escape 1-4 and 5 are challenging but I wasn't thrilled with the story or the ending. Why do these escape games have to be emotionally so dark?
Tiny Bang is refreshingly light and bright.
Runner up -- Silent Age was darkly interesting with a special twist, but it was short and is unfinished.

Not just for iOS -- I'm having fun with Google Easter eggs ever since they posted the Star Wars one recently.

This is not a game, but I totally recommend this.
I have the Japanese version and it's really great. They've released an English version so now I can share. You check it when the season changes -- it will send a notification every new season. I have mine set for badge only.
It takes a while to open on the iPad so will probably take extra time to open on iPod.
It shows a produce and flower in season. (Right now -- Winter Melon and Sunflower) and an "animal" in season (Evening Cicada)
Webmaster (and other fishing enthusiasts) might find it interesting, too, for the fish in season and how they are served -- with photos. (Right now, it's Hamachi/Yellowtail).
It also has an appropriate Haiku for the season and explains it.

OK -- CURRENTLY PUZZLING OVER THESE. I refuse to use walk thru's etc. and I just go away when stumped and then go back, so taking me a long time, but these are really good:

I was waiting for this one to go on sale or get for myself for Christmas -- when I looked, it was on holiday sale for .99 (still is) -- so I got it and have been hooked! I warn you it eats whole chunks of time -- I've got to about 15 - 20 minutes before I fail now.....

It turns out my teen DD's even better at it than I am -- within minutes of trying it for the first time -- I improved my own game play by using some of her strategies
...eta... this got boring after a while — turning Into endless stressful time management challenges. I really prefer puzzle/escape type games, but superior ones are rare.

If you want to get addicted, check out a game called Egg, Inc.
You start with a chicken coop and you can hatch chickens to get eggs. Each level is a different egg with different "properties". (it's only relevant because of the value of the egg) Still really fun in the beginning, and addictive once you're into it.
This one is a free to play game. You can buy "golden eggs" or watch 30 second advertisements for in game perks.

I just finished a game called The House of Da Vinci by Blue Brain Games
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-hou ... 15791?mt=8
I originally held off getting it because of negative comparison to The Room series and reported glitches. I think if there had been actual glitches and not just player errors and what I would call unreasonable expectations, they had been fixed in the subsequent updates. To me, limited vantage points and occuli not working unless viewed from specific vantage point and viewing distance are puzzle features, not a glitch.
While it’s true that the feel of the game is similar to The Room series, I’m not sure if the makers of the game can be faulted for following the paradigm unless there are copywrite/legal issues. From user point of view, this game was just as intricately crafted with beautiful artwork and imaginative story... maybe not quite as complex since The Room already has three previous versions under their belts to build and learn from/improve upon. I really don’t know of any others that are as well put together that can be placed in the same category.
I enjoyed it very much. I don’t use other people’s walk-throughs - that ruins the whole point of playing a puzzle-based game and challenging myself. I also turn off the hints — no spoilers please! I did get completely stuck for a while and had to leave it for about a month when I kept on falling into to the same circular analysis that stumped me. I finally re-played the chapter from the beginning and smoothly got past my mental block and was able to move on right away.

This is my new - “I have a little time to kill” or “I need to clear my head” —diversion:
Subwords by Klemens Strasser
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/subword ... 01517?mt=8
There are 2 modes for each topic. One is infinite time but you have to know or guess all the words, and the other has time limit but you don’t need to know all the words (because most likely you’ll run out of time before you get through it all), but this one holds back some of the critical elements until you complete a few obvious words first.....
When you are familiar with the topic, the game session can be easy, but unfamiliar ones are very challenging to near impossible. I try not to use the hints when I really should know the answers, and I get mad at myself if I use the hint and it shows me something I already know.
I like that by repeating the same topic, I learn some new related words I didn’t know before and improve my score, and when curious, I look them up to find out more about them. At first I couldn’t get through Egyptian Mythology at all, but I’m finally able to finish after playing the topic off and on for about a week.

Here is a “mindless” time waster — rules are pretty simple — or, for me, stressful frustration in “Difficult” ...still trying to master the speedy mode. It’s a replacement for game called Drop 7 which stopped working after an iOS update — not quite up to the original in features, but pretty good none-the-less.
