I purchased some cardinal vine and cypress vine seeds and the trellis where I had initially intended for them to go is no longer an option. I'm not sure what to do with the seeds and don't want them to go waste so I'm looking for some alternatives. Here are some thoughts...
I'm thinking of planting the cypress vine seeds where they can climb my fence. My only hesitation is if they reseed and get out of control, although I think I'm in a cooler climate than where that has been an issue (I've read about problems in TX, FL, and AZ).
I just randomly had the idea of using the cardinal climber as a "spiller" for my railing planters. It's a bit of an unusual choice, but I thought it might be fun and different. For those who have grown this vine, is this a crazy idea?
Any other suggestions?
Marlingardener - that's a good point about the root systems... I'm not sure if the planters could accommodate them. The planters are fairly substantial in size but obviously don't have the depth that a large pot would have. Maybe I'll try it out in a couple of my railing planters and a couple of large pots that sit at the edge of our front steps where it can further spill down the edge and soften the concrete.
I'm so glad to hear that the vine isn't likely to take over so I'll definitely try some out along the fence as well. One of my neighbors had a volunteer cypress vine climbing her fence last year but they're so delicate that I can't imagine them being aggressive. I was surprised to read some reviews where people said they were invasive and it had me nervous to plant them in the ground.

I'm in South Lousiana, and they are totally out of control here. I planted one on purpose 10 years ago, and the birds spread the seeds everywhere. It comes up all over; it is a pretty vine, though-but I am constantly pulling seedlings everywhere in flower pots, flower beds, cracks in the concrete...
