Your chance to brag about something you did in life!

Everyone likes to be proud about something special they did during there life ! Sports education even gardening some special things have happened to you. We want to hear what you have done that is special ? As for me here are a few things that this 71 year old has done in the past! Memory sometimes fells the past but some things stand out for me !

Playing softball in a tournament I hit 4 home runs in one 7 inning game! Being a right hand batter I hit a soft ball over a 300 foot right field fence with the bases loaded! Fishing I caught 3 at a time using my bobber over 10 times! I grew a sunflower with over 72 flowers on one stock! I ran a kickoff back 88 yards in a rival high school game my senior year as left half back! How about you?

That reminds me: I was listening to these two guys, both from the Old Country. They were drinking oghe, [brandy], with bread, cheese and olives. They talked of many things. One of the men, Arshod, said after eating a tear of bread with cheese and washing it down with oghe. "In my village we got this tomato, they get so big, so heavy man can't carry them." ..." Each plant cover maybe one hector, and give close hundred fruit." Garo, the fellow he was talking to said nothing, but continued eating and sipping oghe and looking down into his glass. "Did you hear when I told about the tomatoe we have our village?" "Yes I hear." "You maybe don't think is true?" " No my friend I believe you two hundred percent."

"In my village we make big pots." Said Garo .............." What kind pots?" "Pots for cook things." Some our pots so big ten men can stand inside."

Ten men, what the heck you going do with such big pot?" After throwing back his glass of brandy Garo says: " I'm going cook that tomatoes!"

A little bit of bragging is fine especially if it is just excitement over something, but some people brag way too much, as a musician and skier I have seen my share of them. I have learned to be on the humble side or at least real. There is a saying among skiers that goes “be careful what you say or you may find yourself going down something you wish you had not”.

My wife and I used to ski race and she was on one of the teams I was on. I was on two teams; one was on a different night. Both teams had some very good skiers on them so we won lots of prizes and trophies. On one team we won first place scratch and first place handy cap; the other we won 2nd place handicap and 3rd place scratch, this was out of 60 teams competing. There was a joke about bragging rights, and as I was not the fastest on one of the teams I did not get bragging rights.

Now the fun part.
A guy I knew was on a ski team on a different night and he was one big time bragger. Some of what he told me was that he was so much faster than all his friends and would give me ski lessons. All of his stories were not about having fun but how great he was; I hardly got a word in except to tell him that I also raced in the same league, and I told him I skied with and knew lots of people much better than me.

When you do your time trials to see where you will place you run two race runs, then they average the time of the two runs you took. The lower the time the better you did and the faster you are. As this was just a fun league there is a big difference between the top skiers and the rest of the skiers. They give you a bib number to wear for the year that matches where you placed, the lower your bib number the faster you are, and of course the better you can ski. A bib number on one night compares to the other nights, and there are about 150 racers per night.

So finally one day he tells me that he came in 56th out of the 150 on his night. I told him that was good and that my wife came in 58th. He looked shocked and asked me where I came in at; when I told him 4th he never came by and bragged to me again. I lost my chance for free lessons that day.

I was the same way not out spoken. I Moved to Virgina in 1990 at age 54 to sell carpet in a big store! A guy I worked with mentioned a softball team that was looking for players. I decided to play especially since no one knew me. First night game I got to play and they had me batting 10th and I usually batted 4th but I did not say anything. I had a home run and triple that night so the next game they had me batting third! Remembering things from the past is really a ego booster for any ageing person if you know what I mean!

Can I brag about someone else here?
When I was a ski instructor I had a legally blind ski student four Saturdays in a row for lessons, she had advanced glaucoma and could see light and dark but could not focus. At first we skied a open flat area and she followed me by seeing my shape, and by me telling her what to do. I was able to teach her how to feel her feet, stay balanced, and to know the snow shapes and colors. We progressed to more difficult runs as she got better and more confident. By the third week she said she was skiing better than when she had sight. By the fourth week we were going down expert runs (most difficult) through moguls (big bumps) and she was linking her turns top to bottom non-stop.
Deloris had a blind skier bib on and she was going down difficult steep trails like she owned them. There were guys struggling to get down the runs stopped and standing by the sides, and every time she would pass them they would say "no way that girl is blind". I will never forget the smile on her face when she heard this, or the look on the guy's faces when a blind girl showed them up by out skiing them. She was an amazing student, one of the few I will never forget. I have had friends and known people with handy caps that do amazing things when others may have given up, the courage and perseverance of these people is an inspiration.

Someone at work was saying something that I could have commented on about someone and I kept my opinion to my self.

Greetings tom, Sounds like both, you and your wife, are instructors, working or not. I no longer teach. Nicole, my wife, was in my class years ago, that's how we met. Today she's a Senior Examiner for PSIA. Adaptive Coordinator at the largest Ski School up here.

Maybe we talked about this before, I don't remember. Anyway, Teaching V I well is a large feather in your cap, good for you.
Your student will remember a break through like that for the rest of her life.

Hi, We ski at Heavenly, if wifey is giving a clinic or examining, we may ski at the area she's working. She just did a day in Mammoth
The hasn't been the volume of snow but always good.
I'm guessing you're close to Bend, we were there one year, they sure get some weather there.

Wife will be working her first day tomorrow, all man made, on the Nevada side.

Have a good day. Richard

sorry, you're right! Back to the subject:

One time, this was years ago, we were out front, one guy in my squad took one in the chest. We were behind lines and I had nothing to work with but my bayonetta and first aid kit. But, squad medic and I were able to clean patch an transport.

Ok, Bobberman, I have a fishing story for you: I had never done any but deep sea fishing, father had a great old heavy wooden fishing boat down in Wilmington, not fast but you could go anywhere with it.

Well, I moved to the mountains, this guy I worked with asked " you want to go fishing?" Yah, I had some old fresh water gear I had never used. We went to the end of Christmas Valley and hiked up to Lake Elbert. He casted and put his pole in a stand while tried to get this trash to work. The old monofiliment was like a spring, couldn't cast, the reel was junk. We were up there all day I had to watch while he caught a nice string, and laughed. I was so burned off. That next week I bought a Garcia mitchell reel, cut the rod I had down and put a ferrel in place, bought some 3lb test, hooks, weights, dug worms, aand hiked up to Elbert and for the next two days and nights lived on fish and pilaf. I could case from where I was camping to any part of the small lake.
A few day later I asked this same guy, Feel like going fishing? He says: Sure I always like to go fishing. Back up to Elbert we went.
At the lake, we dropped packs, set up, bated and casted, no talking, set the poles in stand, tightned the line like a E-string and the Brookies started biting.
He snapped some dry branches from a tree and tossed them in the fire ring, I rolled some paper lit the fire. We fished, no talking, I scooped some water set the pot on a grate after adding more wood. No talking, this was war, one of us put coffee into the pot. He could see my gear was different, knew what was going on.
We were both fishing the botton I had a 1/4oz lead on the end up about 12" I had a #6 I think, up another 12" a #6 both with worms.
We had made our first cast just as the sun hit the water, it was now noon or after the were still hitting now and then,,not like in the morning.,,my pole was on the stand, the tip was pointing, tap, tap, tap at the water.

I poured some coffee, thick as mud, smelled great, tasted better.

We sat there our poles tiping at the water, both of our string full laying in the shallow.

He says: " you got the big one, see you got a mitchell, told you they was good."
