Can someone tell me what this weed is? ==> Birdseed

It is growing in all of my container plants on my balcony. They seem to grow under the dirt with only a couple that can be seen on the surface. Could it possibly come from the seed shown in my photo?

Thank you in advance!

I'm no expert at all...in fact, the complete opposite but I was thinking the same thing.

Are they called alfalfa sprouts? Quite good if you like them. You can put them on sandwiches raw (tho that's as recommended as eating almost raw eggs) or you could stir-fry or add to soups.

I have an odd/farfetched question -- do you or someone else there grow sprouts? It almost looks as though someone has been rinsing mung bean sprouts and tossed out the rinse water (along with the inevitable unmanageable floaters) to water he container plants.

I agree that they look like bean sprouts, and if they are, that's fine, but I cannot understand how or why they started growing in all 5 of my container plants. I live on the top floor of a condo building, and I live alone. Is it possible that the soil I am using had been sprout seeds in it? That's the only thing I can think of; and I did buy a different soil than I normally buy.

Whatever they are, I think they are disgusting. I have never had a problem with any type of weeds before and nothing seems to kill these guys. I'm about ready to get rid of all my plants!

Grrrrrr....

Thank you all for answering. If you have any tips on how to get rid of them.....

OK...I found out that my friends daughter put bird seed in the pots when she was visiting 2 weeks ago. I googled this new information along with the answers from above, and found this:

Can Birdseed Start Weeds in Your Yard? How to Stop Birdseed From Sprouting:

When wild birds dine at your feeder, they inevitably drop seeds on the soil below. Birdseed, usually a mixture of sunflower, safflower, corn and millet seeds, will germinate readily if not cleaned up after the birds finish their meal. Sprouting birdseed pops up like weeds anywhere it lands, including your flowerbed or vegetable garden. If you're sick of the mess, you don't need to take down your bird feeder just yet. By taking a few precautions at the feeder, you can stop seeds from sprouting where you don't want them...
