Seed mixes and large amount of seeds seems to be a trend!

I think this year I will be planting more mixes like carrot, radish and even sunflowers! I noticed more companies selling all kinds of blends like in the !Pine Tree catalog that I ordered from! My newest catalog Peaceful Valley out of California not only has blends but a big jump in the amounts of seeds for the money! A example of what I mean is a Rainbow carrot mix of 6 colors at 500 seeds for $2.99 byt for $12.99 you get a whopping 20,938 seeds. I am ordering the big amount and will have some of those seeds to trade!

How about a lettuce mix $2.99 500 seeds and $8.99 for 23,250 seeds! I just looked through Boubtiful Garden Catalog and found plenty of mixes I am ordering like basil mix, Swiss Chard mix, climbing nasturtium mix & even a celery mix. Bountiful is also out of california! What do you think about mixes for good variety and maybe several good out of many instead of working all year and having a bad crop? I think it would be nice to pick a red white and orange carrot out of the same bed!

I like it for things like carrots and lettuce but anything other than that I absolutely refuse to grow. With mixes you don't know what varieties are what so you don't know which ones did well or vice versa. If their is one you like then you don't know which one it is so you would have to grow the same mix again instead of just that variety.

Buying in bulk when you can is very smart and cheaper. We get Agee people together each year and buy bulk seed. And then split it evenly. At the end everyone has tons of seed for very little compared to buying packets.

I have tried pepper and tomato seed mixes that I started and planted in one area of the garden. If I like the variety I save the seed! The mixes sometimes bring a good variety that you would have never tried!
