Finches are my cleanup crew :)

The shiso got away from me and I left too many of them standing when the frost came and they all went to seed. I haven't been able to work in the garden due to hand injury so I've looking at the massive amount of seeds they represented and regretting the situation.

This morning, I heard a commotion outside the window and saw that a flock of finches had arrived to help clean up the seeds :D

Now that they found them, I think the birds will be coming back for a while. What a relief!

applestar.....Looks like they are having a wonderful time eating what you couldn't get to. :D

We bought a couple of cheap plastic birdfeeders, hung them in the trees

beside the house, filled them up, and WOW we are being indulged with birds

which is so nice, because this is the "first" place we have lived in Alberta,

that actually attracted birds. Also have bluebirds coming for peanuts. But...

the bluebirds fooled me, I thought they came, took the peanuts and ate

them. WRONG....They take them away and stash them.

So I got taken for a lot of peanuts one day, lol. Still feed them but not

quite so many daily. Little piggies.... Pays to read up on eating habits of

various birds your'e feeding.

Blue Jays, right? Yeah they're worse with their throat pouch than chipmunks with their cheek pouches
They stuff themselves until you're sure they couldn't possibly put another nut in there or they'll burst, then take off -- typically to a tree to unload and eat some (probably couldn't breath or something )

Most of the time they come to my garden as a flock -- -- family? -- of at least three. Most I've seen was 7 at once!
...Needless to say, the feeder was empty by the time they were finished....

applestar....I didn't know they could gather a bunch like that????

Wow no wonder they kept coming back, and the peanuts were gone so fast.
Guess I got douped by the Bluebirds, lol.
