Getting impatiens to grow

Hi,

I started some impatiens outdoors in some seed tray I made. I got them to sprout but they been doing bad. I was leaving them in too much sun and then it dawned on me they like shade so I moved them.

Still, even with mostly shade they look like they are stressed. How do people get healthy impatiens? I have them indoors now. When impatiens sprout do you keep them under lights at all? I am kind of confused how to get shade plants to grow good when young.

I start impatiens from seed indoors under lights. I treat them just like anything else while they are still indoors. The artificial lights are so much less than sunlight that it doesn't bother them. They are like petunias in that the seeds need light to germinate, don't cover them.

Once they are potted up and ready to go outside, then I make sure to put them in a filtered sun location, not direct sun.

Thanks for the tips.
