Can This Miniature Rose Tree Be Saved? Pictures Included

First time on this forum so hellooo

I bought my mum a miniature rose tree for mother's day and she's managed to kill it already. I'd like to know if there's any way I could save it.

It looks so bad that the buds have started wilting.

Although the flowers and buds have died, new leaves are coming out.

The only thing I've been giving the plant is water but only when the soil feels dry on top.. saying this.. when I took the plant out to take pictures.. I didn't realise there was a whole bunch of water in the pot at the bottom. I'm guessing this is the cause of it.

My mums friend loves gardening etc and she suggested that rabbit poo is good fertiliser. She said that because I do have a rabbit. She said to make sure the poo is dry and left alone for a week or so and then to put it in the pot with the rose tree.

I have 2 rose trees and I did this for both of them. One survived (the older one) and the one I got for my mum (the one in question) has somewhat died.

So my point is, can I save it? It means a lot to me that I keep it alive.

By the look of the roots, the rose needs to be replanted into a larger container - one with lots of drainage holes as the first rule growing roses is that they like lots of water but they don't like the roots standing in water. They should be watered thoroughly and often, but the container must drain very well. The mix for the container is very important. A good one to use is "pro mix" or something that drains well. I assume you are not trying to grow the rose in the house - roses require a lot of humidity and will tend to wilt and or get spider mites when grown indoors. They truly are not house plants! Unless it rains, my miniature roses in containers are watered daily during the growing season - May-September in my area. It's also important that when watering the container that it is soaked. Often when the soil is dry in a container the water will just run down the sides of the container and out the drainage holes at the bottom, so make sure it is watered well.

A little slow release (osmocote type) fertilizer will ensure that the rose is getting some nourishment each time it is watered. Another suggestion would be to support the tree by inserting a stake next to the stem and tying it to the stem, using a figure 8 so as not to have it too tight. Soft yarn works well if you have it on hand. Or for this small tree, you could use twist ties but make sure as the stem gets larger around, the tie doesn't grow into the stem.

I think your cute little tree rose just needs a little TLC and it will be fine.

I'll second that. The roots look saturated at the bottom and rotting. It needs drain holes. The roots are not getting oxygen.
