Planting advice for poinsettias

Hi! I have 3 poinsettias in pots inside. Right now we have to keep them close by the heater b/c it was so cold in the other rooms that they were dying and losing all their "petals." In SoCal, can you believe it? :)

Well, I was wondering if that means it's also to cold to plant them in the ground outside. We do already have a plant outside, but it's doing amazing; but it's a few years old and it's shielded by the house and rose bushes, so maybe that's why.

The other poinsettias are starting to, even though it's warmer in the house, have some of their leaves starting to "turn." If they do go outside, they would be planted in roughly the same place as the older one. Any suggestions?

I seem to recall that the minimum temperature they can tolerate is about 50º F to 55º F. Chillier than that and they drop their leaves. I wouldn't plant it out until the night temperatures remained above that minimum, unless you can offer it a protected position in one of the warmer micro-climates in your yard. JMO. :)

Okay, thanks! Is there any special food or something that you know of that I can do to help them live longer?
