Transplanting Question

Hello all,
I have 3 hydrangeas in pots and originally they were to be planted in ground; however the spot for them is not ready and won't be until next week. The 3 are newly potted (just arrived today) and since the area is not ready for them, I potted them.

My question is this - next week when the bed is complete and ready would it be OK to transplant or do I need to wait until they have gone dormant? I have read where they do better if transplanted when dormant.

As always any and all advice is appreciated.

OMG, now this is a late reply... not sure how in the world I missed the question but oh well. Your new bed should be done by now though.

Here is my reply. Our winter weather is so mild that you should not have trouble planting shrubs most of the time, hydrangeas included. Just remember to mulch them well, about 3-4" of mulch. I tend to mulch here a little beyond the drip line due to the drying summer winds. If this winter lacks moisture, remember to water them. Water once every week or every two weeks (test the soil with your finger). When not to plant over here: when you go out and it is so cold that you ask yourself what are you doing!
