Advice transplanting jackpines

I have two ~6 months old jackpines on a pot, I got them from one of those minikits they sell in B&N. Anyway, they look ok at the moment, but the soil is too humid, I think, and it seems to be growing some stuff on it. I realize the soil I used was not the best nor ideal for bonsai. So, I recently bought some real bonsai soil and Im thinking on transplanting my baby trees.. but Im not sure if this is such a great idea.. they are so small, and we are in the middle of a very hot summer here in nyc.

any advice??
