Mushrooms

I have lots of mushrooms popping up in my lawn. Are they ok to put in my compost pile? Thanks

Re: Mushrooms

Despite what might have been said on gardenweb, here we never recommend eating mushrooms you find unless you really know what you are doing or have an expert (not a book!) along with you.

But for your compost pile, yes, completely fine.

Re: Mushrooms

I'm tossing every mushroom I find into mine. My understanding is it helps introduce the fungus into the pile and that helps breakdown slower colder piles like mine. Once it starts heating up again the fungus will die off.
