Juniper Help

I planted 6 skyrocket junipers last spring and they did very well over the summer. I wrapped them in burlap over the winter (Edmonton) to prevent windburn and also insulated the roots. This spring they feel very dry and are starting to turn brown. I was watering them a lot since I thought they we're dry but found out that this species likes dry soil and requires very little watering. They don't appear to have an insect infestation, is it possible I gave it a fungal infection by over watering? Do they look like lost causes or is there a way to get them back to healthy? Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.
