What fruit tree is this?

Hi there! I just moved to a new place with a mystery (to me) fruit tree on it. I don't know anything about fruit trees and I'm having trouble IDing it. Any ideas?

Re: What fruit tree is this?

It looks like it is bearing "fruit". The question is are there edible nuts inside the shell, that is if there is another almond tree planted close enough to it. Some of the trees in the almond family are bitter almonds, which are not really suitable to fresh eating. Note that if their is a peach tree to close the nuts will also not taste very well. Peaches are a very close relatives. Looking at you picture the tree looks like it is not to very old and needs pruning for airflow etc. Generally almonds are pruned in the open bowl style, just like peaches. You might read up on pruning the peach family and after studying the tree from all sides, begin shaping the tree. The general rule is to not prune more that 25% in any given year.
