Nitrogen or Carbon source?

Middle of winter here, but its seems some of these old Canna leaves are partially green. They were buried under a pile of leaves. Is this possible or is it just moisture giving this appearance?
I guess if there is still chlorophyll, I would consider this a Nitrogen source for my trash bin compost pile?

We're they pruned green, or were they fallen brown?

I agree. We had a discussion of this difference here:

Especially your tough, semi-woody stems are definite "browns" carbon source.
