What Might These Bugs Be?

I decided to go ahead and carefully prune some of the dead limbs of my pincushion plant away as I noticed some new growth just behind and underneath them. As I was doing this a small bug crawled out from beneath the plant. I got it to crawl onto my scissors to get a good look at it. It was small enough to fit on a pin head with an ovalish, hard dark brown body. There was clump of limbs that were completely dead and came away with a gentle tug. At the center of them was a sort of web I think. It was springy and hard to get off. It reminded me of some sorts of glue when dried and stretched, but thinner.

When I was looking at my plant earlier today I found a white bug skittering around as well. It was no larger than a grain of salt.

Based on what I've been looking up since last night my best guess is the white thing is a mite. It would explain why once healthy leaves are turning black. I'm not 100% sure though and I'd like some more opinions. I don't know what the brown one was.

I'd also like to know the best way to deal with them organically. From what I've read pincushion plants tend to not like strong chemicals too much. I'm already thinking of using the milk spray as a fungal preventative as well, and would like to know what not to mix that with.
