Its a juniper. It could well still have glued on shipment rocks on top of soil. If it does you want to take glued on rocks off.
Get (or) make a wooden chopstick and stick in soil every day. If it comes out damp, its not time to water, if dry--it IS time to water. Test every day.
Juniper are creating from newly rooted cuttings, your new tree baby does not have much for roots, it MUST live outdoors.
