Re: Just out of curiosity, do you volunteer?

I love my trees. When I walked better I would plant them as landscape plants (full sized). After I kept them in little pots and or gave them away as reforestry projects to newly diagnosed and impoverished women mostly.

don't do a lot of garden related volunteering. I do grow a few hundred seedlings that I donate to my church, to be sold as a fund raiser.

I serve my Quaker Meeting (church) in a bunch of capacities, including Clerk of the Meeting (sort of lay pastor), on a variety of committees, leading book club discussions, etc.

I (and a few other people) cook and serve dinner to ~ 35 residents of Tender Mercies shelter for homeless mentally ill once a month.

I volunteer as back stage help, selling tickets, etc for MUSE, Cincinnati's Women's Choir.

I serve on a collaborative task force on how to provide help to hoarders.

etc...

Wifey made Anzac Biscuts to take to people. I volunteered to taste them to see if they were good enough. I'm happy to help taste any time she or the girls bake or cook for others. Does that count?

I am in a garden nearly every day

I volunteer at the Wahiawa Botanical garden (run by the city ) on Wednesdays

I work at a farm on Mon - Tues- Thurs part time. I need to pay for medical insurance

I have a community garden and currently I am president. It's a lot of work for no pay.

I volunteer at Urban garden Center in Pearl City on Fridays and Second Saturdays. It is run by the Univ of Hawaii. There I take care of the herb garden and grow herbs for sale at the monthly plant sale. I have been a master gardener since 2008 and I currently have over 200 volunteer hours for this year (The year ends in May)

I belong to two orchid clubs and I have been or am currently and officer in each of them.
This week Kunia will have their 60th show and I have grown some kale, bay leaves, rosemary, tomatoes and hopefully some of the peppers will be ready for the sale. Unfortunately I only have two orchids in bloom and one budding up (I don't know if it will bloom in time) so I don't know if I will have anything for the display.
At the show, I help on the food committee. I have done that for about 8 years. I make Somen salad and the Saturday morning special fried rice and coffee. I don't drink coffee and I only make it once a year so it can put hair on your chest.

My tree babies make me happy. The food islands I create may get ignored for many years, maybe forever. But if there is a bad year, then somebody will get to eat.
