Bugs in my bonemeal

I just opened the bonemeal bag to discover...



So gross. Now I'm not sure if they also like to eat plants so I need to identify them before I can use this. Please help.

You can see at least one juvenile at the top of the picture and an adult on the left. The rest is a mixture of juveniles and husks and maybe even adults. I didn't feel like stirring to find out.

Definitely ick factor! Without studying your pic, flour weevils come to mind. Are there small greyish moths flitting around? The moth for grain looks much like the one that enjoys wool fibers. Next, it might not hurt to work this in your soil, but I would get the baggie, and trash it.

Yeah -- finding bugs in anything is so very creepy.

Is it a big bag? Considering where you live, if you were to put the whole thing in a tightly sealing zip bag and put it in the freezer for a week or so, the bugs and their progeny will probably die (then their little dead bodies will simply be additional plant food ). I have a chest freezer so I might consider doing something like that.

Lol I wonder what my husband will think of me freezing a bag of fertiliser.

I could put it sealed in the sun. That would do the same. I wonder if I really need to kill them though?

I have a feeling the beetles in our mondo grass look the same. There are actually too many of them and they crawl on to you if you sit on the lawn.
