A rancher friend has asked me to suggest the best trees to plant along a county road leading to his ranch house in Southern Monterey County, CA. The road runs between two farming fields that have row crops and get regularly irrigated. Oaks grow in this area but too slowly. Cottonwoods, pepper trees and poplars grow fast in this area but are too messy. I need a short list of something that will add beauty and grace but will not be messy or interfere with the row crops. Any ideas?
