New Here too!

Hi,

I grew up gardening with my parents, but it has not been until the last few years that I have had space or time to garden. Last year I grew tomatoes, snap peas, corn, and zuchini with few difficulties. I have have a small 3.5 x 5 bed for my son; 10 x 2.5 adn 4 x 8 bed for the household. This is the first year without large projects in the back yard which allows me time to focus on the beds. I am trying to use companion planting methods with rotation of crops between the two large beds. (my son has specific plants he wishes to plant currently). This year, I placed the tomatoes in the new 4 x 8 bed with basil and marjoram. I also have eggplant, Kolorabi and corn in here in palces. As I have read more about companion planting, I have already moved plants like the cabbage that is now in my son's bed and the beans that are now in the 2.5 x 10 bed with strawberries, zuchini and squash.

I have a few questions about companion planting and crop rotation.
:)

Welcome to the forums!

If you will notice at the top of the list of posts on the Vegetable forum, there is a Companion planting "stickie." You can get some good ideas there. My own thinking on successful companion planting is that 1 plant benefits and 1 plant tolerates. It works out fairly well with some.

My son is moving from your part of the world back to here. He has been, mostly in Oregon, for nearly 25 years. I think he'd be staying there but would be more happy with living on your side of Portland rather than this side of the city. Might have decided that since he drifted off towards the NE, he may as well go about another 300 miles (as the crow flies) and show up here  .

Steve,
Eastern Oregon and that region along the Washington, Idaho border is beautiful! Several years ago we traveled along the Next Perce trail up that way. I can see why your son would want to return.

I will look at the companion planting forum . I'm sure there will be some good ideas there. Thanks
