Chinese elm pests

Hi everyone,

I have recently bought a chinese elm bonsai and i have noticed some pests in the pot and climbing up the tree. They are like a white see-through worm, but today i found a fly on there. Please can smeone advise me as to what to do. I have found a number of these pests, do you think it is a good idea to repot?

Thankyou for your help,

Carl

P.s., this is a pic of my tree!

Sounds like thast scourge of the greenhouse, fungus gnats. Rest easy, there is an efective and sound method to get rid of these.

Bacillus thuringiensis is a mouthful so it's a good thing we just say Bt most of the time. It's also a little bacterium harmless to everything other than larval stages of insects (infects their little tummy and multiplies until BOOM! they explode  ) Treat every two weeks until said buggers are kaput. Good for you, good for the environment, VERY bad fore fungus gnats (who are eating mostly organic content from the soil, but do hit the occasional root, so best to get rid of them soon)

Hi, This is my first post, and found that my trees have the same thing.
My question is: What is the mittle used to defeat these pesky critters?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Scott,
First, Is "Bt" the mittle used to fight these "Gnats"? Because that's basically what they are.
Second:Can I purchase it in a Garden store :?:

Don't know "mittle" but BT would be a safe, proven method for eliminating them. Kills just the larval stage, so a reaaplication two weeks later is best to get any that the existing adult stage may have layed...

Hi HG,
Sorry for any misunderstanding.
I guess I've been in Germany to long.
What I meant by "mittle" is, is BT, i.e. a spray or a natural solution, and is it available to buy? When I go to the garten store I need to know what it is that I need,or if I can get it at all. I have four trees and they are all affected. One is looking quite weak.

Thanks,

Jeff

Good garden centers usually do carry it, although I am not sure of it's availability in Germany (it is widespread in professional use)...

Often sold as mosquito dunks or pellets...

Thanks HG,
There are more than enough Garden Centers here. So I'll check it out this week, and let you know.
