Flat & Wide cucumber stems

I have been growing cucumbers for years (using the Marketmore varieties) and have never seen cucumber stems flat and over an inch wide. This is only on two plants out of over a dozen so it is not a garden-wide disease. The plant continues to grow and produce fruit.

I will try to upload some images when I figure out how.

My 1st guess is: aster yellows.

Altho' I grow asters every year, what I often notice aster yellows on is dandelions. Makes me wonder if any plant species is immune. Certainly, many may have the disease.

Flat & Wide cucumber stems

Thanks digitS'

That is certainly a possibility. Interesting that 2 years ago I added some native Asters to this part of the property. Don't know if that has any impact. We'll see if any other plants develop this syndrome as the second planting recently germinated. The first planting already has fruit and vines over 6ft.
