I have two long vines of Hopi yellow watermelon that are beginning to produce some female flowers. But two of the three flowers I've found are turning yellow and soft before they open! I am wondering if it is too hot for them to set? We are in the dog days of summer here in Tucson before monsoon kicks in, and daytime temps reach 110-112 degrees. I have erected a shade cloth above the main body of my garden but a few of the vines extend into full sunlight. I am also watering twice a day.
Is this too much?
Are my plants still getting too much sun?
Is it just too hot for now?
Do they have some sort of disease?
This is my first experience with growing melons, and I am eager to have some ripen!
