Shrivled brown on edge of leaves on Kale. Purple spots...

Hey guys, I've had pretty good success at growing cold weather stuff in the past however this year I decided to make my own soil-less blend. I took petemoss and vermiculite and perlite as well as some blood and bone meal (not much at all). Mixed it all up in a big box and this was to be used for my seed starting mix. Anyway, its been about a month and a half of growing things and I have some weird things going on with my kale (Black Tuscan aka cavolo nero) and curly kale. Pics are below....what am I doing wrong

I think it may be a potassium deficiency and other nutrients...

Just a wild guess here, but...your growing medium doesn't appear to retain water at all. Could the roots be going dry between waterings? Or is there still snowmelt on top of the beds?

I'm think it's to much water. Do you have drain holes in your cups?

Bone meal 1-13-0
Blood meal 13-0-0

And you maybe right on the (K) potassium. Are they getting root bound. Those are fairly large transplants for 2" cup.

Snow Melt? What?

Thanks for the info guys. Double Dog, I don't think they are root-bound, there roots seem still fairly small. I added some soil to my mix just to help add some nutrients and help water stay at there roots for a while. I'm also going to let it dry out completely before watering again. DD might be right, too much water. I also gave them some organic ferts, so well see what happens.

cynthia_h, as far as snow on my beds outside, no its actually just melted, no snow in sight for the most part. However it still needs to dry out. I'm guessing sometime in April I will move all the cold weather stuff out, or at the end of March. I have to keep a close eye on the weather though if i do it that early. I do have those wall o waters though .
