new and hopeful---is bonsai dead?

Good day all! About 10 days ago my bonsai leaves started to droop, I suspected he was thirsty but the under-tray had water so I thought maybe I overwatered him the time before...all leaves went limp and fell off!! Can he be saved? Unfortunately I'm not sure what kind, I have a book and he looks most similar to the fig tree. I'd take a photo if it might help but he's bald Any suggestions or insight would be most appreciated

Could he be deciduous and doing what nature intended?
