My DIY Aeroponics chamber

Today I made an Aeroponics setup, I had been reading about them for awhile and really wanted to try one myself. I only spent about $70 on it including the T8 light I found on craigslist for $4 and the pump new from Home Depot for $36. The only thing you even need to go to the hydro store for it the net pots and the jets, they are EZ-Cloner replacement heads, I use the red 360* ones, the yellow ones have a larger hole so require a bigger pump. The pump is a 300GPH fountain pump and I have 10 sprayers, I read during my research that you need 250GPH for every 7 sprayers. The PVC is 1/2" and I used a 5/32 drill to make holes for the sprayers, you can either buy a tap or use a regular framing screw as those threads are almost the same, and as long as you don't need to constantly take it apart and put it back together it'll be fine.

Its kind of hard to get a good picture of the spray pattern.

I've been meaning to set up a a system like that for a while, just never seemed to have the money. I've seen alot of homemade systems that rival expensive professional ones for a fraction of the cost. The only thing I can recommend about yours is move the light closer to the plants. 4 inches is usually good, and you don't want them ending up like mine, tall and leggy. My light is started that far from my herbs, and it was a BIG mistake.

Your system really looks good. Hopefully you will post some photos of the plants after you get it up and running. If you have a Harbor Freight Tools store locally they sell several pumps, and they are much less expensive than Home Depot. They also have a site you might check. Good Luck.

Never thought about harbor freight, I go there a lot. The light it lower now, I only had it up while I was hanging the Mylar behind it. I do need to pick up some sort of inline water filter, I am having some problems with the sprayers clogging sometimes. The plants are growing great and its only been 2 days.

It seems unusual that your spray heads would clog with liquid nutrients. I use dry nutrients and my heads have never clogged. It could be grit from the hydroton. You have to wash it several times to remove the grit.

I think thats what it was but I never really could tell cause to unclog it I would just blow threw it ans whatever was lodged would come flying out. I hound a filter but it didnt work well enough, to much of a restriction and there wasnt enough pressure to have a good spray pattern anymore.

I ended up just using a longer piece of hose from the pump to the PVC rig and set the pump over on the side of the container on its side so the inlet isnt toward the bottom anymore and its been good since.
