Encourage onions to sprout

Hello All,

Does anyone out there have any ideas on how to encourage onions purchased from the grocery store to sprout? I have had a little luck finding already sprouted ones (especially organic) at the store. I have also had them sprout spontaneously on top of my fridge. Neither of these is real reliable though. I would like to find a way to encourage store bought onions to sprout when I need them. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Send them too me! I have incredible problems KEEPING mine from sprouting! :D

I would put them in a cupboard that your husband frequently leaves open so that they get just enough light to encourage them to grow. That seems to work very well for us! It does take a couple weeks though.
