Are all plum trees cold hardy?

I bought a plum from WalMart that was imported from some tropical place in South America. I planted the pit and now I have a baby plum tree.

Since the plum tree came from a tropical place, should I treat it as a tropical plant and bring it in for the winter? Or is it okay to plant it outside?

Is there such a thing as a plum tree that isn't cold hardy?

I think all plums are cold hardy, because unlike peaches and apples which have 'low-chill' cultivars I've never heard of a low-chill plum. But the tree grown from seed probably won't produce fruit like the one the seed came out of. Do you have any idea where it was grown in South America? A lot of fruit comes out of Chile, which is quite mountainous and can have very cold winters.

Yeah, I think it was Chile come to think of it. I didn't know they had winters.

I don't mind if the fruit tastes different. I don't think I've ever had a bad plum so any should be okay. Certainly some taste better than others but I'm not gonna stress about it too much.
