My wife and I recently made a nice "island" underneath our evergreen tree in the shape of a tear drop. We will outline it with rocks ( we dug a trench to fill with that rock) We did this because the "grass" underneath the tree was awful and an eye sore. We filled the island with nice soil and have a couple of mounds - looks real nice..
My question is.. what plants can be planted underneath a tree ( pine needles - I think its a douglas fir tree?) - low sunlight, low water (unless we water it)?
