Help with Plant Identity

Hi, This plant appeared in my garden last year and is still growing. It is now about 18inches high and has got new shoots coming off it. I wonder if anyone can identify it for me please. To date it hasn't flowered.

Many thanks

Is it evergreen, or did it die back during the winter? It could help if you let us know what country it's growing in, and other details like that. :)

Hi, apologies for not being more specific. It is evergreen, it did not die off over the winter, it is growing in my garden in Rugby, England. We moved into the 4 year old house two years ago, this plant appeared a year ago and is growing alongside the garden shed. We don't know if it is the result of a seed dropped by a bird or if it is something left in the ground after the house was built.
