I believe both tater and mater to be in play as colloquialisms indigenous to a goodly portion of the population. The fact that my particular region is not part of that portion should not influence the issue as I think of it simply as speaking another dialect of the English language...

I think we are decending into some very vague generalities about farmers and children that may not be entirely based on fact...like...

It's simply not factual. But some generalities at least fit general streotype, so there is some truth...

perpetuates the stereotype, but I did specify ornery New Yorkers, a subset of New Yorkers, so I feel this might be acceptable, but in the interest of presenting the best post I can...
