A neighbor gave me two seedlings, and I'm not familiar with either!
Help, please!

Are they supposed to be vegetables? Are you supposed to be able to plant them for use?
The first one reminds me of bolted lettuce, except the leaves look more like cabbage leaves. But I've never seen bolted cabbage before so I can't tell if that's what this is.
2nd one could be lambs ears - ornamental - or could also be mullein, which is mostly considered weed but sometimes considered medicinal/herbal. The pointed shield shape and the wild wooliness of the fuzz makes me think more likely mullein? Well, mullein would get really big. Lambs ears would grow multiple flower stalks and have purple flowers. Mullein would grow single thick flower stalks and have yellow flowers. Texture of the leaves is a hit with little kids and silvery furry appearance makes great contrast. Either way they need sandy soil.
