Scarlet Runner Bean

I got a few Scarlet Runner beans from a friend and thought that I would try growing just one bean, I looked on the Internet and there was a page with easy to understand directions, so I am going to try that way. Will let you know by updates how it works(or don't) work.

I am ALL ears! A friend sent me four seeds to try and I haven't done anything with them yet (it being January and 25 degrees:)))

Please post what happens with them and what you did. I am anxious to have success (for you and me both!).

Make sure you build a sturdy big trellis. They are very vigorous.

Elsewhere, I posted photos of them climbing up a bat house pole with no help. They climbed all the up to the house, then slowly sagged down the smooth metal pole as the beans matured and weighed them down.

I got some seeds once but never planted them. At first I thought they were just an ornamental bean but I found out they are edible. They are also a cool weather bean so I did not know how they would do in Hawaii.

How cold winters can they take?

They are a tender perennial. Frost kills them.
