the red shiny-ness makes me think reishi...but the shape's a little odd (though maybe it will open out more) do you know what the stump was from? looks coniferous. reishis like hemlock...

I'll ask my girlfriend. She is in VT right now, and I remember that when I was in ME there were a lot of hemlock. I doubt she'll know what the tree was but I'll ask.
