Cigarette butts in new compost pile

I found a few cigarette butts in my compost pile. I am new at composting and I want to know if I can simply take them out and continue on or if the whole pile is tainted . the pile is not hot as I am just beginning to get it all together.. thanks in advance for any help y'all can provide.

yeah, just pull them out. No reason to waste a good compost pile.

Pluck out the filters you find. Use the pile after.

Hi, If you find anything else, like, a human hand or an AK 47, let us know so we can advise.

I agree: pluck them out, happy gardening.

Gotta ask. A filter won't compost well, but a non-filter butt is just tobacco and paper. I wouldn't empty the ashtray in it, but what is some to hurt?!

I believe the usual threat is TMV (tobacco mosaic virus) which affects all solanacea.
