Hi,
I am new to the forum. I am trying to get my pointsettia to bloom from last year. I don't know if this is a stupid question or not but are pointsettia's dyed? I was in the nursery at home depot yesterday and saw some with blue and green flowers. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks
Amy
Hi Amy,
Welcome to the Helpful Gardener. No question is ever stupid when it comes to gardening, so not to worry. Your question is a good one, especially with the different colors seen today. The colored part of the plant is actually a bract and not the flower. The flower is in the middle of the colored bracts, which are a type of leaf. The new colors like blue are dyed. There is no blue in this species. You might find this Washington Post article interesting.

Here's how to get your poinsettia to bloom again.
