laburnum half of tree dead

I have an established laburnum tree which seemed fine until this year - the trunk splits at the bottom and this year one side is fine but the other looks completely dead. I've noticed a fungus looking thing at the base of the dead half - wondering if it's too late to save it? Photo attached...
