Alberta Urban Garden Video Blog

Last year I did a few YouTube Videos and really enjoyed the process. I do them so I can stay connected with my family whom are all over Canada!

I decided this year to expand the videos I am doing. I love to learn and share information so I hope to do that via YouTube as I have no gardening friends that live close by.

So Please take the time to watch and let me know what you think?

This is the last video tour I did last season. I actually forgot to post it last year!

[youtudotbe]https://youtu.be/aFwm3xTaniM[/youtudotbe]

I work in a number of buildings and visit this one from time to time and absolutely love going there. in the centre of this building there is an Atria with ALLL sorts of tropical plants growing! it is a nice get away when it is -40

[youtudotbe]https://youtu.be/2mjfNlCLhA4[/youtudotbe]

I will have a whole list that I want to do this year so stay tuned and I hope you enjoy!

I really enjoy growing strawberries for the first time last year. I decided this year I am comparing varieties!

Seascape vs. Tri-Star vs. Sierra F1.

What don't get raided from the garden I hope will make their way into Strawberry Wine. That is not likely to happen this year but I should have a good idea about how well the varieties do here for production taste and overwintering.

take a look at my youtube video about it don't mind the poor camera work I have learnt a ton already and will improve in future videos!

hope you Enjoy!

hope you enjoy

Last night we had a HUGE storm pass through. In the spirit of documenting in my Video Blog I did a video of it ;)

These storms are exactly why I do a lot to protect my garden against the wind.

Last year in the jungle of pumpkin leafs I had a really hard time watering the back plants. With this years expansion all along the back fence I decided to give drip irrigation hose a try. Not the most precise product but a cheaper investment of time and money at this point.

Following this video there were some adjustments that are still required. The first being unused areas get electrical tape on them to help maximize use at important places and planets tape at the joints.

I hope you enjoy!

Shoot I know what happened. I am using a camera for video and my phone for audio. I forgot to silence the audio on the video clip. Thanks for mentioning it. I finished edits late last night. I think I know how to fix it.

Double Dog,

The last post I did I made an editing mistake. I am currently fixing it and will re-post the video. Brain fart last night I forgot to finish the editing process with a final check.

Right now I have to record Video on my camera and Audio on my phone. I have a couple of things coming in that will fix that and I wont have to monkey around with the Audio as much.

Will re-post shortly.

No, I'm just yanking your chain. I enjoy your videos. Keep it up.

I don't have a true video camera, I use my Sony DSC-H50 digital camera. Poor video quality, but it's fun.

Rainbowgardener and I both posted slide shows awhile back. Maybe she will repost her's. Here's mine

In this episode I fix up my drip line and try to deal with my weed problem. As you guys are aware the soil I started with was not optimal. WOW this year with all the rain I have a TON more weeds... not weed ;D

So in this episode I am testing out cardboard sheet mulching. Should be interesting to see what happens :D

You saw it here first!

Stephen,

I think you'll find that cardboard is your friend. I've been using truck loads of cardboard for about 10 years know and even more so the last 3.

Eric I was unsure about using it but figured I'd try anyways. Now I am sure it was a good idea :) I thought if I fail I'd at least document it :)

Thanks for putting me at easy about that one.

Well I am going to try to get the munchkin down again. Three am is just a tad early to start lol

We call Amelanchier, Serviceberry.

Actually, I'm more of a beer consumer. Made some pretty good home brew.

It has been just over 3 weeks since I did general garden tour. It has been so miserable here it was hard to find a time when it was not raining and early or late enough in the day. Wind aside and between rain storms I got a nice little garden update done!!

hope you enjoy!

It is the best time of year as a gardener this far North ;) Harvest time!!!

I am super excited to have some produce from the garden in almost every meal I eat these days!

I am proud to announce as well that I have just eaten my FIRST full sized tomato I have ever been able to successfully grown in my garden!

I was out on a project this week and ran across wild strawberries. If you have not already noticed I very much enjoy strawberries ;)

I know they don't produce a lot but I hear they are very good ;) so I thought I would try to propagate them and give them a shot in the garden. so far so good ;)

let me know what you think!

Stephen,

I guess I question the wildness of them. I hear traffic and see what looks like farm land or grazing land behind you. Most of our wild strawberries grow along the forest edges. Could these strawberries be domesticated escapees

I do like your videos :)

I did not think of that :) There are strips of land along my project corridor that are domestic. It might be an escapee :) we hopefully will find out :) This project is in the boreal forest area and I am thinking domestic strawberries that far north is no likely but should not be ruled out :)

Do you have any tips for transplanting wild blueberries ? I found a patch but need more tools to get them out :)

Thank you !! I appreciate it very much !

I can't believe it is the middle of August already !! How time flies !! In this video I do a general garden update taking a look at the progress of things ! Two revaluations came to me while doing this video. I need to get ride of that accursed poor soil. It is dwarfing my peppers and killing them. The second my black cherry tomatoes do much better in soil then containers.

It is a fun time of year with the squash taking over !! :)

Sorry for the lack of picture clarity. It was hot and humid !!
