Who lives in southern Cali. Cynthia
Well who's down here I'm in laguna right now at the pacific marine mammal center.
Pacific Marine Mammal Center is in Laguna Beach, Orange County. I usually think of "Southern California" as the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Imperial, Riverside, and San Bernardino, but this isn't a generally accepted definition.
Waterbug is in SoCal for sure; there are several others, too. I'll have to check.
ReptileAddiction also in SoCal.
BTW, I'm at least a 7- if not 8-hour drive from L.A., so it's not a "drop by" kind of thing.

Too bad CH. I was hoping you would be close enough for a drive by. Just left Laguna it was nasty stinky and very high surf. It mocked my daughter on her face, damn near pulling me in.
We are going back to Huntington now. I will have to see where El Carrito is on the map.
Heavy surf and rip currant warnings all week in Orange County.

Instructions for finding El Cerrito on a paper map:
Locate San Francisco. Look east, across the San Francisco Bay, and find Oakland. Go north to Berkeley. Go north just a little bit more. Oops! You're in Richmond--you just overshot us. Drop back down a little bit to El Cerrito.
When we lived in Berkeley, that house was 6 miles south (yes, almost due south) of our current house. Weird, huh?

Ah. The classic trap. There is a southern town called Cerritos and yes, it's pretty close to where you are.
But I'm in El Cerrito, up near San Francisco, where (*sigh*) the airplane crash was on Saturday. Amazingly, only two people were killed--tragically, both of them 16 years old--with 305 survivors. That was local news for me.
Take another look at the map. I've driven to L.A., to Orange County (Irvine), and to San Diego. Although it was quite a while back, I remember each of those trips, and none of them were short! Gas and potty breaks had to be carefully planned.

Sounds about right.... San Diego was 11 or 12 hours (we went *around* L.A.); downtown L.A. via The Grapevine (Tejon Pass) was 7.5 hours or so with only one stop, either in "famous" Gustine or "famous" Bellflower, depending on whose car we were in.gixxerific wrote:
Looks like just over 7 hours and about 416 miles.
Glad you got the distances worked out, but sorry we won't meet, at least not on this trip! (It's probably for the best: my house is half-painted and this year's "garden" is very higgledy-piggledy.)
