Tree I.D. requested

I just bought a house and I noticed a very large, beautiful tree that I don't know the name of. I don't recall ever seeing one before, and no one I ask can give me a definitive answer as to what it is.

It would help if we knew where you lived, or what area this tree is growing in, but it might be a type of ash?

My guess is Ailanthus altissima aka Sumac aka "Ghetto Palm"

Looks like a Black Walnut to me. Crush the leaf and take a sniff. That should be positive because the smell is very strong and can't be confused with much else.

black walnut is what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure enough to put it forward....

Update!


I was doing some minor trimming on the tree and I noticed some fruit!

It is, in fact, a black walnut.


I can't say I'm thrilled with the prospect of cleaning up those little things once a week or so when they start falling.. but at least I know what it is now.
