got 2 Avocado pits.

My mom gave me 2 Avocado pits and some toothpicks to grow my own avocados. I was wondering how to grow these plants currently? I have them in a cup of water each and in a mid to low light area on top of my computer. I plan on getting some Adradfical light, a 60 watt snap on grow light bulb from linders should do the trick.

How long should it be before I see growth or know if the seed is good?

Change the water if it starts to look murky. You should see them starting to split in a couple of weeks and actually start growing a root in 3-4 weeks.

As soon as you see any shoot growing from the top, you will want good light. 26W daylight CFL bulb in anything would work though I tend to favor clamp on utility light with 10" aluminum reflector for supplemental light. Keep the plant about 3-4" from the light bulb.

thank you. I'm sort of a plant nut I like to grow things. I do have plants I will have to move away from the light fixture, so the leaves don't get scorched. I will provide as high light as possible for the avocado babys.
