When to prune Chamaecyparis lawsoniana?

Hi, I am new to the forum. I am a landscape architect. I work at a city sport complex in Varna, Bulgaria and we have many old (maybe 10 years old) conifers from the species Chamaecyparis lawsoniana (Lawsonian cypress).

My question is when is the right time to prune them in order to get them in shape. I know that this conifer is very resistent to pruning and is oftenly used for hedges. We've started pruning them this week and I believe the temperature is low enough for that but I am not sure the time is right. I am new to Chamaecyparis and I am afraid that they can rot or die...

Please give answers only from experience.

Thank you,
