Help me identify this

Ive had this bonsai for about a month and thought it was a Chinese elm. I've noticed though that there are only two ridges on each side of the leaf, while the Chinese elm has multiple. The leaves are about a half inch tall full grown and they have small black spots on the bottom. Please help! :?

Vad23,

Hello and welcome to the forum. Without pictures any attempt at ID would just be speculation. Any chance of getting a few images? If you need assistance posting them please look here.

Vad23,

OK, I see that you have edited in a picture, thanks. It really reminds me of Fukien Tea. I don't grow this species so I'm only going from pictures and previous posts. The ones I've seen usually only have one strong serration per side though. Here is an image to compare against.

I have a fukien tea tree, and for some reason that one doesn't look quite like it, the leaves are similar, but on your tree they almost look smooth, Fukien teas have little bumps on the leaves. Also Fukien tea is very recognizable by it's small white flowers.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it is a Fukien tea tree.... good luck, either way

By the looks of him, I'm going to second MOT's apraisal of a "holly".

Just which one, I'm less sure of.

If he's living indoors, I hope you have a green house. Waxy evergreen leaves or no, my holly never prospered indoors.

The Only thing about the holly species all have thornes that I've seen. And my leaves don't have thornes, they have ridges kinda like a fukien tea

A humidity tray alone will not help you grow a holly indoors.

Not 100%, I just know it's no Fukien. Leaves aren't glossy enough.

Some leaves are starting to turn yellow, why is that?

You're probably over watering which is keeping the soil wet all the time.

If where it was photographed is its normal bench, the light levels are far too low. And it may be being watered too much.

Hi Vad23

Did you ever find out the exact species of this tree?
I have a tree very similar in leaf type that needs identifying.

Cheers
