what is this yellow stuff

I found this on my zucchini plant about a week. It seems to be ok its not producing much but we planted it late. I am in KY. this is also my first attempted at gardening. My wife tried last year and she did good. the zucchini plant last year looked great then one morning we checked it and it was dead. crazy.

nasty ol' SVB (squash vine borer) - there are many threads about them here, in a couple places.
