Are my Crepe Myrtle's dead "how to tell"??

We transplanted 2 large Crepe Myrtle's in Febuary. We are in S.C.. They are yet to have any leaves.

Keep watering them regularly. They may be dead up top but Mine has just started around the base with new sprouts shooting up. Once you see the new sprouts shooting up around the base its probably safe to prune back the dead wood.
