I'm back.
The Puppy is a female.
For you that don't know, my buddy Jacob has been missing since December 31 2011. Believed to have died in the woods. Jacob, background of my avatar. Double Dog Farm
My dad suggested Lignite for a name. She does have a light reddish brown tint in the right light.
Keep the names coming. Maybe something from the Providence of Labrador.

What an absolute sweetheart. Awwww.... Slate sounds nice, but Honey would be a nice little-girl name. If you expect her to grow big, maybe Juno? (My female Bernese Mtn Dog is Vesta, goddess of hearth and home; just turned 12 last Saturday.)
Juno was the wife of Jupiter in Roman mythology/religion, and her symbol was the peacock, for constant vigilance (sounds like a watchdog to me). Geese were sacred to Juno because they warned of an attack against the Eternal City ca. 300 BCE, allowing the Romans to turn back Celts--just barely--from what would have been a total surprise attack. (Imagine the Celtic Empire....ah well.) Maybe the ducks are a reasonable substitute for this little girl in her new world?
Oh my Lord, she *is* cute and an absolute sweetheart, to judge from the pix.

Are you a fan of "Benny Hill". He was a British comedian that had his own show many years ago and they are still shown in my city on a retro station. One of his skits was about his dog having pups and he went over the list of names he gave them.Marlingardener wrote:We had a dog once named Chopin. He was the pianist dog .
It went something like this here. "I named one of the pups Eagle Eyes since he was the "seeingest". I named another one Genghas Kahn because he was the "Meanest". And I named the last one Liberace, because he was the "Pianist".
BA DO BOOM
"Sable" is nice: soft, black fur. In one of my "other" worlds, it also stands for Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy....DoubleDogFarm wrote:How about Sable or Zobel?

And I may have become a SABLE in the world of quilting, although I haven't purchased any new fabric for two years, going on three, except for 2 yards of sheep-themed fabric earlier this year for tote bags for knitting/crochet projects.

Well, Angus is quite a respectable name for a Labrador retriever. There is a large Scots population there ... from what I've read, anyway. But I only occasionally call Angus by his name. I usually call him Doofus or Doofie Dog. ( What'd I tell you?)
Daisy is usually Daisy Doodle or Daisy Polka Dots.
I'm just a hopeless case!
But I do love doggies!

Dempsey became Dempsey Doodle when he was about two. I then shortened that to The Dude and, finally, just Dude. When he was a pup, way back in Cheyenne, one of my neighbors told me she had thought for several months that his name was Dammit Dempsey.
My nephew named Zeke. It took me the longest time to find him a name. He was earnest about everything he did. Even when he played, it was like it was something he had to really apply himself to. Not a dog that laughed. I told my nephews I needed a really serious name to fit his personality. One of them came up with Ezekial. It fit.
Sable seems a little ordinary. I like Zobel.

I always think pet names, particularly dog names, should be something easy to yell out -- with an open mouth vowel rather than closed mouth vowel for better volume when you need to call them from a distance.
So, Eric, if you agree, trying yelling the suggested names out loud and see how that feels.
Going back to the first page to look at the puppy pictures some more....

LOL, he ended up going by just "Zaphod" - the full name on paper was "Shah Jahan Light of the East" which is hardly something you want to holler out when you want kitty to come out of the garden for dinner. Besides which, he wouldn't ever even respond to "Shah" but he would come for "Zaphod", which makes me suspect that it's close to what he secretly called himself....Kisal wrote:That's quite a mouthful of a name!
On the other hand, if you call your pet Zaphod it's a fairly good bet that nobody else's cat or dog will come running when you yell.... Previous to Zaphod, my cats have been Thunderkitty, Newton, Hercules, Cat, Tom, Bella, and Abner.
The current crop are Niro (often called Mmlle. Fluffypants), Ditto (The Sweetiekins), Curious George (addressed as Mr. George), and Where's Wally? (addressed as Mr. Wally or Walleroo).

That, or maybe Hoover? Mine just had his second breakfast. First is a nice bowl of dog food, second is an egg and 2 strips of bacon. Now, he's here trying to suck up MY bacon and eggs. He looks at me with those big moon eyes as if to say, "Oh, please! Give me some food! I haven't had anything to eat for at least 2 seconds!"DoubleDogFarm wrote:How about Kirby? We sit on our deck and watch scores of boats go by with dogs aboard. Nothing compares to the sheer joy that dogs on boats give off. Some dogs perch like a bow sprit. Some are in constant motion from bow to stern and port to starboard. They appear to be terrified that they may miss something. My favorites are the minis like Yorkies who find the highest seat on a pontoon boat. It's the only time in their lives that they get to be taller than their owners.
I usually remind those folks how lucky they are that their dog allows them to ride around on his boat.
